Let’s face it, there’s been a lot of rain lately! In fact, since the start of this new year, many of us have been buffeted between the freezing cold and the pouring rain. To some extent, it’s to be expected at this time of year, after all it’s winter but if you’re trying to live, work or play in a leaky conservatory, it makes life pretty horrid doesn’t it?
So, here’s an idea!
Perhaps you inherited your conservatory when you bought the house, or perhaps you had it built way back when the kids were young, but is it now dead space? Shut off from the rest of the house to stop draughts? Piled high with junk? On the demolition list? Or do you feel like you need to dress for the Arctic Circle if you need to work in there?
Stop! It doesn’t have to be that way! Honestly, there is a way of revitalising your conservatory so that you get lots of use out of it without all the headache and hard work of a full renovation project.
Insulated ceiling option
A quick and cost effective solution is to install an insulated conservatory ceiling. These look really stylish from the inside, with a clean, light look and have a number of benefits. They reduce sun glare on any TV or computer screens, reduce furniture fade and external noise, improve privacy and most important of all of course, they insulate your conservatory. Meaning they will be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer as a result of which your heating bills should come down too.
You don’t have to have a new roof (although we find most of our clients prefer them) and we can apply a layer of special white film to the glass panes so that you can’t see the internal insulation from the outside.
If you do have any leaks in the ceiling and roof, these need to be repaired first of course, but we can discuss the best way of doing this with you.
Older conservatories or glass pane options
If you have an older conservatory you may be worried about whether it is suitable for one of our new insulated ceilings or roofs, and the good news is, the answer is nearly always yes!
South facing conservatories typically receive more direct sunlight which means that the insulation has to work harder in the summer to keep temperatures cooler. If your conservatory is a little older, or if you’re not sure of the glass specification then we would recommend insulated roof panels or a replacement tiled roof. Both these options have the capacity to cope with greater heat levels.
A beautiful slate tile roof
Our tiled roof option is the most popular. It uses super light, man-made slate tiles. They look very realistic but are made with state-of-the-art materials which means they are very lightweight and suitable for most existing conservatories. They literally give your old conservatory a whole new look and lease of life. And no more neighbours looking down on your junk room form their bedroom next door.
Insulated roof panels
As a third option, we can also install insulated roof panels. Again, these use state of the art materials to ensure that they are UV-resistant, with a high resistance to impact and provide excellent thermal insulation. The installation process is quick and mess free, and you won’t have to put up with major disruption or building works in order to transform your conservatory.
